JORDY SEARCY

"There's something really different about Jordy" -Pharrell Williams

DARK IN THE CITY

I live in a city people wanna move into

I do all the things that people say they wanna do

But when the songs that we write don’t shake the college student loans

Everybody in town wants to move back home

Dark in the city

Dark, Dark in the city

Yeah but there’s a light on the inside

Light on the inside

All the shops on my street only sell expensive things

We have everything that nobody really needs

But if you go a little further, little further down the road

The families live on foodstamps, and the kids wear worn out clothes

Dark in the city

Dark, Dark in the city

Yeah but there’s a light on the inside

Light on the inside

Everybody knows her from the corner down the street

Cause she asks for money from everybody that she meets

But no one knows the demons putting words inside her mouth

She used to be a streetlamp, now her light is going out.

EXPLAINING JESUS

If you're gay and over 85
And you've felt for your whole life
That when God made you, he just messed up

If you've been raised a southern belle
Born and bred for show and tell
But you lie down feeling never good enough

I'm so sorry
For how it's been
We're broken artists
With broken pens
We paint our pride
And call it truth
I'm sorry no one explained Jesus to you

If you've heard a knock on your front door
But all that you found on the porch
Was a pastor that just wanted to be right

If you really want to pray to him,
But you're never sure he's listening
Cause who could forgive what you did last night

I'm so sorry
For how it's been
We're broken poets
With silly words
We paint agendas
And call it truth
I'm sorry no one explained Jesus to you

Oh
Can't you feel him in the room
Oh
All he wants is you

I'm so sorry
For all the wrong
We're broken singers
With broken songs
We paint our pride
And call it truth
I'm sorry no one explained Jesus to you
I'm sorry no one explained Jesus to you
I'm sorry no one explained Jesus to you

ALMOST FRIENDS

Back porch, black & milds

I heard you crying

Could have asked why

But I stayed silent

Let's just

Sit down in a small town

I want to rewind to that

Bad night from a past life

When we were almost

We were almost friends

Feels like fall out

Floating in the air

It's not that you're mad

It's that you just don't care

Let's just

Sit down in a small town

I want to rewind to that

Bad night from a past life

When we were almost

We were almost friends

Building burning bridges to you

Sit down in a small town

I want to rewind just to

Say things that we know now

When we were almost

Always Almost

Sit down in a small town

I want to rewind to that

Bad night from a past life

When we were almost

Always almost friends

ROSALYN

Rosalyn’s new here

Just moved down

Her friends all warn her about that part of town

But she feels safe in

The city streets

The darkness makes her feel at peace

But when she walks two blocks over to the suburbs

She’s scared, cause everything’s a different color

Color

Rosalyn, outside looking in

And all you hear is how we’ve come so far

Rosalyn, how come we judge your skin

And never give a damn about your heart

Rosalyn’s armor

Is the clothes she wears

They protect her from our stares

Brand new jacket

Expensive purse

When she wears em

Nothing hurts

Rosalyn, outside looking in

And all you hear is how we’ve come so far

Rosalyn, how come we judge your skin

And never give a damn about your heart

But its all about your heart

We’re trying so hard

Rosalyn, don’t give up

Don’t give up on us

Rosalyn, outside looking in

And we don’t even know who you are

Rosalyn, how come we judge your skin

And never give a damn about your heart

JENNY

Jenny knows what its like to be liked
But not to be loved
Jenny never limited her heart
So she couldn’t limit his touch
Now she’s looking at a blue stub

Jenny
This isn’t what you asked for
Jenny
This isn’t what you wanted
Jenny
It’s all up to you now
Jenny
Jenny you’ve got 9 months

Jenny knows that cody doesn’t care
He’s got bigger, better things
He was on his phone through their first ultrasound
Wouldn’t even look up at the screen
Jenny’s parents just want him to go
But she just can’t let him leave
Cause now she’s changing from the inside out
Come and listen to the heartbeat

Jenny
This isn’t what you asked for
Jenny
This isn’t what you wanted
Jenny
It’s all up to you now
Jenny
Jenny you’ve got life in you

We’re all on the outside
Throwing our two cents
But its so easy to judge from the outside in
And everything around her
Tells her who to be
But where redemption grows everyone can see

That this is what you’re made for jenny
This is what you’re made for
And you’ve got a life to live now
You’ve got a life to give now
You’ve got a life so live it out, and live it loud
Jenny
